There is a lot of speculation flying through the blogspheres about “50 Shades of Grey,” the new book series that is flying off the charts in sales. The book itself is disgusting, degrading, and down right wrong. It portrays the image of a man who is sexually assaultive, yet praises his actions as “cool,” and “melodic.” The sad thing is, readers alike are embracing the content, and raving about how much they are enjoying it.
Now, before you get mad at me for judging your new favorite book, I want to say a few things.
1. I’m not judging the author.
2. I’m not judging the book’s readers.
The only thing I am doing is giving clarity to a topic that has been widely discussed across Christian and non-Christian blogs alike. And to be honest, I’m pretty disappointed in the most recent posts that have come from a few Christian bloggers that I like. Using twisted scripture to state, “women are to sexually submit to their husbands regardless,” there are many Christian women who are down right outraged with this response. And to be completely honest, so am I.
All I have to say is, “Really bro?”
As Christ followers, we are called to be different than the world, not join it. Yet when it comes to a topic like “sex,” I believe the pig-headedness of a man will try to control the spiritual purity of God, therefore overtaking viewpoints and understanding. The flesh wants to win the battle.
My point is this:
50 Shades of Grey isn’t something anyone calling themselves a Christian should be reading. And not to mention be supporting…
Where I Stand:
1. Making a woman submit to any sexual deed a man desires is no different than sexual assault. It’s wrong. It’s selfish. It’s immature. Grow up.
2. Don’t let any man twist scripture to get you to do something you don’t want to.
3. If a woman says “no,” then it’s a NO. Man up.
Gentlemen, 50 Shades of Grey portrays the exact opposite image of who God has called you to be as a man.
