I just heard the news regarding MyBlogLog, and as you know it doesn’t instill confidence within me for the big Y!

(ReadWriteWeb) Five years to the month after it was founded, cross-blog social networking widget MyBlogLog will be closed down by Yahoo! in January, we’re hearing from sources close to the project. MyBlogLog is a service that shows blog writers and readers the faces and profile information of other MyBlogLog users that visit their sites.

I was never a fan of the service, but with them shutting down anything that isn’t generating serious cash (i.e. their Shopping API, giving up search to Bing!, etc.) I’m no longer going to upload images to Flickr and will probably stick with Facebook or Picasa Albums instead.

Yahoo! has some great products under its belt, some which were kicking Google’s wazoo before the purple Y! acquired them.

But if Yahoo! continues this trend of passionless retreat, then I probably need to find someone else to host my goods upon. Sad times indeed!

After seeing Avatar in theatres for the first time (in 3D nonetheless), here is my take on the movie with a pretty package that almost failed.

For the space geeks out there, you probably noticed a few scientific blunders (hint: the proximity of the moon to the planet), but overall this film seemed fairly accurate, although they didn’t explain the near light speed travel aspect.

Not to mention the unobtanium (yeah, I get it, but it would have been better to explain this better than give it a dumb name).

Yeah, I know I’ll get a lot of flack for saying this, but am I the only one who see’s how extremely difficult it is to follow Christ’s teachings.

Here’s one example (as there are plenty more):

“Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy.

But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;

That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.”

~Matthew 5:43-45

I’ve heard people talk about these verses forever, but I have seen very few actually live this out as if it were a natural way of living.

I mean if you met someone you REALLY didn’t like, would you want to bless them with a Christmas gift? Or a happy unbirthday present?

Perhaps I should use an exmaple here.

Let’s say this man below…

…showed up in front of me at the Mall or even WalMart (which I doubt he would ever visit unless he was campaigning), would Christ expect me to wave and smile at him–or even give him a fist bump?

Despite the fact he is screwing over the economic future of America by spending (tax payer) money faster than a drunken sailer at Vegas? (can you say deficits!!)

Perhaps.

But unless I somehow obtain 10% of Jesus’s love for humanity, there is no way on I can fully live up to this commandment.

For the first time in my life I now fully understand lemmings, and why these fur balls run off the cliff.

Because that is what America is about to do by passing this healthcare bill.

(Politico) The Democratic Party’s decades-long push to remake the U.S. health care system cleared a major hurdle early Monday morning, with the Senate voting to advance a massive $871 billion bill to extend coverage to nearly all Americans and tighten regulations on private insurers.

Less than two days after releasing a bill with 383 pages of changes, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) corralled his politically diverse caucus and delivered the 60 votes necessary for the most crucial test vote in the legislative process so far–effectively assuring the reform package will clear the Senate later this week.

Whether or not universal healthcare (government style) is a glorious endeavor for the masses I’ll leave for the pundits to decide (even though I’m strongly against government healthcare given their long track of failure with everything save the mail & military).

But enacting this now in the middle of a recession is fiscal suicide.

One that makes me want to dust off the passport again, as living through an eternal recession is not my idea of what a glorious future looks like.

Ghetto!!!

It seems my brothers, sisters, cousins, neices and nephews have one thing in common: they all want smart phones for Christmas!!

Being the chief geek in the tribe I decided to pick up an iPhone when they first came out, then purchased the iPhone 3GS later on (although I do miss my iMetal friend–I hope ___ _____ is enjoying it).

Most of them are on Verizon (which I left) so I don’t have to worry about picking up an iPhone for them (even though they want one really bad).

Unfortunately many of them want the next best thing, and since most of Verizon’s phones are ugly (Moterola Droid included–at least that is what my sister said) they are all looking for the next best thing.

Since I don’t feel like paying $200/person per phone (and will not either by the way), I am going to have to hunt for some awesome deals at WalMart, Bestbuy, eBay and Amazon.

Thus far I’m heavily looking at the Droid Eris, which has a nice user interface that actually rivals the iPhone (a first in my honest opinion).

The phone is decent, and inexpensive (at least at WalMart).

I missed the $30 Eris Droid sale on Black Friday (Grrrrrrr!!!!) but hopefully it’s still cheap enough for me to purchase a few for the extended family (although they’ll have to pay for Verizon’s draconian service plan themselves). I might also consider a Blackberry Storm 2–depending on the deals they have. (hint, hint!)

What I really want to do is send them all an I.O.U. for Christmas and wait until they mysterious Google Phone appears (which according to rumors is similar to the HTC Passion).

The phone is coming out next year, and I know they will enjoy it tremendously (not to mention save me some cash!!).

So I can either get them an inexpensive gift this year (say a DVD) until the killer phone launches (just in time for birthdays) or attempt to buy them a smart phone which will become obsolete next year.

Either way, I need to make a decision–soon!! (as Christmas is next week!)
